Invisible Generals Whiskey - Benjamin Davis Sr.

The story of America’s first Black generals, Benjamin O. Davis Sr. and Benjamin O. Davis Jr., is one of courage, perseverance, and historic achievement. Together, this father and son duo contributed to the creation and success of the Tuskegee Airmen, which paved the way for the integration of the U.S. military. These Invisible Generals left a lasting legacy, expanded opportunities for future generations, and helped shape the military we know today.

This blend brings together 7-year-old whiskeys from Tennessee and Indiana with 4-year-old whiskey from Kentucky. After blending, the whiskey was finished in Cognac casks, adding layers of dried fruit and refined sweetness to its rich caramel, vanilla, and warm spice notes. It is bottled at 112 proof—a tribute to one father, one son, and two generals.

Benjamin Oliver Davis Sr. served with the Buffalo Soldiers early in his military career and served his country for 50 years. Davis shattered a longstanding barrier on October 25, 1940, when he became the first Black general in American history. His distinguished career spanned five major conflicts: the Spanish-American War, the Philippine-American War, the Mexican Border War, World War I, and World War II.

Among his many leadership roles, he took command of the famed Harlem Hellfighters (369th Infantry Regiment), a unit celebrated for its courage and distinguished service. His legacy is defined by exceptional leadership, unwavering discipline, and a steadfast commitment to duty, service, and country.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Rich caramel and toasted vanilla open first, followed by dried apricot, golden raisins, dark cherry, and honey. Subtle aromas of leather, sweet tobacco, toasted oak, and warm baking spice add depth, with a delicate Cognac-like fruitiness underneath.

Palate: Full and velvety with layers of caramel, vanilla bean, dark fruit, raisin, baked apricot, and brown sugar. Mid-palate brings toffee, roasted nuts, soft leather, cinnamon, and cocoa, while the Cognac cask contributes a refined grape and dried-fruit character.

Finish: Long, warm, and elegant, with lingering notes of dark fruit, vanilla, toasted oak, tobacco, and baking spice. A subtle Cognac sweetness carries through the finish before giving way to a gentle, dry oak note.
