The 369th Infantry Regiment, famously known as the Harlem Hellfighters, was an African American unit in World War I. Despite facing racial segregation and discrimination, they served with distinction on the front lines for 191 days—longer than any other American regiment in World War 1 history. Renowned for their bravery and fierce combat skills, they earned respect from French allies and received numerous honors. Their service shattered racial stereotypes and paved the way for future integration of the U.S. military.

This blend of straight Kentucky bourbon and Indiana rye was aged for a total of 191 days in French Pinot Noir oak wine barrels, marking the exact number of days the regiment spent on the front lines in France. The barrels themselves originate from the same region where the Hellfighters fought, creating a rare, symbolic connection between place, history, and spirit.

This bottle honors James Reese Europe, a pioneering African American musician and officer assigned to the Harlem Hellfighters during World War I. As the regiment’s bandleader, he introduced jazz to the continent of Europe, gaining international acclaim. A respected composer and conductor, James broke racial barriers in military and civilian music. His contributions elevated African American music globally, even inspiring the legendary Duke Ellington.

Tasting Notes

Nose A light, sweet aroma of honeyed grain and delicate vanilla, accents of red fruit, soft oak, and faint berry tones. The scent evokes sweet mash, aged wood, and lingering heat.

Palate Mellow and approachable. Smooth caramel and light brown sugar are balanced by a restrained whisper of rye spice. The Pinot Noir influence offers a rounded, fruit-tinged note that enhances the sweetness.

Finish Full-bodied and gradual. Flavors of warm oak, soft spice, and a subtle echo of Pinot Noir fruit taper off slowly, leaving a clean, refined impression.
